One of the newest ways to move is with container based moving and storage. In this service the company brings an empty, weather resistant storage container to your home. The crate usually has a roll up door in which you can lock (you can purchase a padlock from the company or use your own). The containers usually come in different sizes with the most common being 8x7x7 or 8x8x12 or 8x8x16. The company can help you determine how many containers you might need.
This approach has several benefits:
- After the container is delivered you can take your time packing and loading it! (Check with your local community ordinances to see if there is any limit.)
- It is level to the ground and easier to load heavy items
- When you are ready, you simply call them and ask them to pick it up. They can take it to one of their storage centers or move it to your new home….whether that is across town or across the country.
- The storage fee is often less than what a mover will charge to store items
Comparison Tip –This option is usually more expensive than renting a truck but much less expensive than professional movers since you are doing a lot of the work yourself.
