Truck Rental – Driving Tips

One of the things to keep in mind when comparing renting a truck to containerized moving or full service movers is the fact that when you rent a truck, well, you have to drive it! Driving a large 26 foot truck is very different than driving your sports car at home. It may cause you stress because:

  • The vehicle is new and unfamiliar
  • You will be sitting much higher
  • The acceleration and turning process will be different
  • It may be difficult to park and turn around

If you have never driven a truck before, please make yourself familiar with the truck before you take it off the lot. Learn where everything is on the dash, adjust the seat and mirrors, and go for a test drive. Make sure that everything works in the truck like the horn, signals, windshield wipers etc.

When driving the truck please be especially careful…use your lights and your turn signals, always watch your speed, pass with care and always of course have your seatbelt buckled. Realize that trucks are not always allowed to drive on parkways or certain types of roads, so plan your trip prior to starting it. And, the speed limit for trucks is less than cars in some areas.
