Packing Tips - Garage

Packing your garage can be very difficult as it contains odd shaped objects that don’t easily fit in moving boxes. Here are some tips:

  • Take an inventory of the room and decide what to move and what to sell or give away.
  • Consider your new house – do you have the same space in your garage as you do today
  • Put all the tools of similar length together and secure them using rope or cord; keep all of your small tools in their tool box
  • Dismantle lawn and deck furniture and keep all screws and other items in a plastic bag taped to the item. Clean the items prior to your move and to remove and pack separately any glass.
  • When moving all of your gas powered equipment they first have to be drained of all their gasoline and oil
  • When you are packing bicycles be sure to turn the handlebars at right angles to save space. Cover chains and pedals to protect other items from getting your other items.
  • If you are moving out of state check to see if plants can move with you as there are sometimes special regulations against this. To move potted plants and other items read the tips on moving plants or contact your local garden center.
  • When moving outdoor equipment including items for the children always make sure that you keep all of the bolts, screws and other small parts in a plastic bag taped securely to the item. If it is difficult to disassemble an item please be sure that you have the directions to assemble again…..or jot down notes yourself.
